The company was founded by family members of the Ascencio family in 2004, and started exporting timber in 2007 from the city of Iquitos. Sawing facilities and drying facilities were constructed in the districts of Belén and San Juan of the same city. Export of dried timber, mainly of the specie Virola increased rapidly between 2012 and 2015 making La Oroza one of the main timber exporters of Peru.
With the approval of the regulations of the new Peruvian forest law in September 2015, the company decided to acquire more own forest concessions to have closer access to the timber resource and to have a better control over sustainable management of the forests.
Today the Company applies a strict responsible procurement policy for its own forests and for all timber sourced from third parties.
La Oroza is a private company recorded in the public registers of Iquitos since 2004 as Inversiones La Oroza S.R.L. During the next years it developed like a company responsible socially and environmentally which is reflected by contributing constantly to the development and wellbeing of its personal and by respecting traditional rights of communities located in the influence area of the working zone. The company is committed to comply with the current legal requisites in terms of occupational health in Peru, fostering a culture of prevention of occupational risks. Furthermore, the company complies with the principles and criteria of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

In 2015 La Oroza was main supplier in Iquitos of timber for the FONCODES NEC-Carpetas project, producing school furniture for educational institutions (elementary schools).
During 2014 and 2015 La Oroza received technical assistance through an agreement with the Perú Bosques project financed by USAID.
As support in the preparation process for the FSC certification, La Oroza signed a contract with the ProMadera de la GIZ-IDH Project which allowed the company to receive technical assistance during the years 2015 and 2016.
Committed to its responsibility for sustainable forest management of the Amazon forests of Peru, La Oroza participates in the platform that connects private and public actors and called “Pacto Nacional por la Madera Legal” (National Pact for Legal Timber) that was created during the COP20 in 2014 in Lima with the objective to develop a national market for timber of verified legal origin.
